America, 18th century. This decorative and useful iron kitchen implement, probably made by a local blacksmith, was used to toast bread in front of the fire. Fleur-de-lis form the decoration on the rack portion, which pivots to enable the bread to be browned on each side. Gift of Joseph Robbins, before 1886. |
